How We Work

We design beautiful and functional homes that meet the specific needs of our clients - this all starts by defining a clear set of objectives to establish a client brief for the project.

Dependent upon project location we typically visit sites or properties for a free initial consultation to better understand the client requirements and brief before then providing a fee proposal letter. 

From this initial meeting we are then able to map out the stages towards achieving the project objectives which is then relayed back to our clients.

We believe in collaborative  working practices, be that with other consultants, contractors  or the clients we work for. We look to work with our clients to develop design solutions that all parties are happy with rather than seeking to impose our design solutions.

All projects and clients are different, so Backhouse Jones Architects write bespoke fee proposals for each project which clearly define a series of work stages for project as well as setting out our general terms and conditions.

These work stages also allow clients to employ our services only as much as they is required with no commitment to appoint us for an entire project. If a client only wishes to appoint us for some initial design studies or to look to obtain planning permission then this is absolutely fine. 

Design projects are complex with numerous hurdles and statutory requirements to overcome across the design stages.

We seek to mitigate this through clear and consistent communication as well as working through projects on a well defined 'stage by stage' basis where the objectives for each stage are clearly established and our intended design output is outlined in the original fee proposal letter.

We charge our fees based upon the size, situation and complexity of the project as well as what scope of services we are appointed to undertake.

Fees are always bespoke to a project and are clearly set out in an initial fee proposal letter.
