Who We Are
Backhouse Jones Architects was founded by Alec Backhouse and Megan Jones in 2022, and both continue to lead the practice.
Both bring varied previous experience from working in small scale studios to large international architecture firms. Together they share a desire to create striking and finely detailed architecture that responds to the local environment, vernacular, and landscape of the areas in which we operate.
Our Practice
Backhouse Jones is a small architecture practice which seeks to produce finely crafted projects for our clients.
Our projects are unashamedly contemporary and modern but always rooted in a sensitive response to the locations and buildings that we work with.
Our proposals seek to respond boldly and creatively to such surroundings - Rather than be inhibited by them, we aim to draw upon to influence to inform our designs.
Common themes of our projects are strikingly simple forms derived from the local vernacular which look to increase space and light into both new and existing properties.
Though the practice advocates for bold and creative architecture we maintain an excellent record at the planning stage, and we are proud of the results we achieve - both in terms of the built projects we help deliver and also the feedback we receive from our clients.

All of the team at Backhouse Jones Architects are ARB qualified architects, which means that we can guarantee all design work is undertaken to the highest standards by qualified professionals.
Backhouse Jones Architects is an RIBA chartered practice.
Where We Work & Projects Undertaken
The majority of our work is domestic projects for individual homeowner clients but we have experience of working on commercial and cultural projects for companies, charities and other institutions.
Backhouse Jones Architects doesn't have a minimum project threshold and we decide which projects we accept on a project by project by basis.
Most of our projects are located in Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire, however we have previously worked across South Wales, London and South-East England.
